Joanne Mouland - Artist
artist statement:
Jo’s work offers an original visual language for telling stories of water. Her unconventional choice of tools such as seaweed, feathers, stones and small pieces of driftwood combine with her hand made ink hues to produce unique marks in her abstract seascapes. Jo encourages sediments in the ink to swirl and settle in rivulets and banks, rendering aquatic microcosms.
Her drawings, while rooted in close observation and understanding of water, are inspired by associated longings, memories, mood and movement. Her automatic process is repetitive, meditative, oscillating, and a response to internal shifts. The materials for Jo’s inks are collected locally, some salvaged in her own kitchen.

commissions:
Jo is able to take on commissions based on her work shown in the gallery and is also happy to discuss alternative ideas or work outside of the scope of dyingarts. Commissions typically take 2-3 weeks but this very much depends on the particular materials and Jo’s schedule.
