Environmental Moon Jar by Simon Frend

Oak leaf litter, oak moss, paper, beeswax polish and persistence.

This beautiful moon jar is made using oak leaves and lichen, gathered in the New Forest. This vessel would make a fitting cremation urn for someone local to the area or with a connection to woodlands. It is naturally fully biodegradable and designed especially for woodland burial.

All of the works from this environmental urn series encourage conservation, contemplation and connection with our natural environment. This ephemeral sculptural vessel speaks of closing the circle and offers the opportunity to plan a ceremony without the need to scatter ashes by hand, which can sometimes be more challenging than dignified, especially on a windy day.

  • This environmental urn is made specifically for a woodland or natural burial site. Placed in the ground, the natural materials of the urn will decompose and add organic materials to the soil and help to neutralise the ashes, thus minimising the environmental impact of the interment.

The moon jar is robust and very light weight. The stopper, which is made from the same material, is a good fit and can be permanently sealed by wetting it with a damp sponge and leaving to dry overnight.
